It ended up being traced to a slight bend in one of the heater core pipes allowing it to touch another piece of metal. Since then it has traveled frequently from Maine to West Virginia, promoting responsible motorized recreation in my role with Tread Lightly!... the miles have climbed, but it keeps getting improved and rebuilt with help from the automotive program students and staff at Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center.
